Got my GoPro HD Hero Wet!!!

Alright, I finally got my HD Hero out in some surf after about a week of having it, don't get me wrong as I found tons of other uses for it.  So the spot I picked is one of my all time favorites on the Big Island of Hawaii although I cannot say where it is because it's a hidden (secret spot).  I was in the water for about an hour and a half to two hours and caught about 8 - 10 waves.  I couldn't have asked for better conditions, it was slightly overcast, no wind and surf was in the 2 - 3 foot range (Hawaiian).  Being that this was the first session with my new cam I DID NOT want to lose it and I felt very comfortable taking it out on these waves.  I scored a couple sweet in and out barrels and layed down a few reverse spinners as well as taking a couple good lips to the head.  The day before I had made a custom bodyboard mount for my camera and I must say that it exceeded my expectations.  The camera, mount, surf and everything else was solid on this first session and I captured what I think is some very cool footage.  I hope to take the Hero out in surf that's in the 4 -6 foot range with occasional bigger sets to test it's rigidity, so be on the lookout for that..........until next time, Aloha!

Here are a couple vids from my first session.....enjoi

Nice NW coming in on Thursday!

Looks like Thursday is gonna be the best bet for waves this week.  What this swell lacks in size it will make up for with direction.  It could be very similar to last week as far as wave height, but coming in at 310 - 320 degrees compared to last weeks 350 - 360 I think quality will be a hundred times better.  So if the wind cooperates Thursday should be an EPIC day.....should be seeing lots of TakoEye out there!

GoPro HD Hero II - Late Christmas Present!!!

YO YO YO haha, look at what fell out of Santa's Sleigh!  This is only day two with the new HD Hero cam and I'm already scoring some killer video.  Unfortunately I picked this up right after I finished a pretty fun session at 69 Point on the Big Island.  Thanks to Pacific Vibrations out there in Kailua-Kona for hooking me up with this sweet camera.  What do you do with one of these Hero camera's when theres no surf......?  I found a use for it and got some very cool footage of some PowerWheels tow in's with Noah.  Check the video below

I cant wait to get this thing in the water and hunt some TAKO EYE haha Cheee!
Subscribe to this blog to see all future footage cause it's gonna be (I cant even describe it, haha)

Surf Check (Westside Big Island) Jan 4, 2012

So, I took a drive down to the coast today and there were definitely signs of a swell starting.  I started my surf check around 8:30 a.m. at Pua Ka Ilima O Kawaihae or Kawaihae Breakwall and it was waist high, PERFECT for the family to go down and have some fun.  There were about ten people out with a 5 - 10 minute wait in between sets.

From there I drove over to the Mauna Lani Resort and parked at Holoholokai to check Java's all the way down to Paniau.  Like Kawaihae it looked really fun, some spots appeared to break bigger than others but that could be due to the different reef formations.  In my opinion "Suicide's" looked like it would be the most fun for me (being a bodyboarder).  Anyone on a surfboard or longboard would want to hit "Peak's" or "Ritz Rights."

Paniau had a few nuggets that came thru but the SUP guy was snagging all the good stuff....Anyway, I'm back down there this afternoon because it should be on the rise all day, then back for more DAWN PATROL tomorrow morning.  See you out theeeeerrrreeeeeeeeee!!!

Keep checking in for more reports and updates...Seriously!
